Architecture + Design studio established by Paola Provinciali.
spArch works across the boundaries of architecture
and design.
spArch has a research-based approach, a
particular interest in current and future ways of working and living, and in
how those aspects influence and inform design.
spArch believes in collaboration with clients,
occupants, consultants, specialists, and builders, to find the optimum outcome
to the specific requirements of each project.
spArch is interested in a diversity of projects,
from design objects and installations, to private residences, workplaces,
educational and cultural spaces, public and urban scale projects.
spArch is an advocate of design as a way of
improving the quality of everyday life.
The practice is led by Paola Provinciali.
architect
Paola was born and raised in Italy. She graduated in 2006 with a Master Degree (Laurea Magistrale) from the School of Architecture in Florence - Department of Technologies for Architecture and Design.
Her design thesis for a new Art Museum in Florence was informed by the
history of the site and its surrounding areas - a disused gasworks within the
historical city centre. She particularly addressed the recovery and re-use of
ex-industrial buildings, heritage listed sites and structures,
logistic and access to tight sites within historical city centres, energy efficiency, prefabricated modular structures, and construction technologies.
Continuing from the final thesis and drawing from her professional
experience, Paola brings to each project her design enthusiasm and technical
knowledge. She enjoys the challenge of finding the fine balance between
commercial viability and design innovation. Her approach focuses on both design
and technology, considering Architecture as a whole and 'not just as pretty drawings'.
Having worked internationally for many years, Paola has proven capabilities
of collaborating effectively with clients and large project teams, within
diverse cultural backgrounds, as well as coordinating and delivering projects
in Australia and overseas.
Paola gained professional experience across Europe and Australia.
She worked for award-winning design & research practices in Australia, as
well as international practice OMA.
Some key projects while working for other practices are:
__New Museum for Western Australia in Perth (documentation stage, interiors)
__Resort & casino in the Solomon Islands (from concept stage to
construction)
__New Zealand High Commission in the Solomon Island (design proposal)
__Prefabricated modular accommodation (from concept stage to prototyping)
__Straw-bale passive house in country Victoria (documentation)
__Various residential, commercial, and educational projects (new build,
renovations, extensions, from concept to project delivery including interiors,
joinery, custom furniture).
Paola holds professional
registration in Italy and in Australia.
